With all the talk of Facebook now taking longer than expected to reach one billion users, I wanted to see where the growth was coming. Looking through the socialbakers website I found statistics (although not verified) of the user and growth of facebook accounts by country. Africa is certainly a heavy contender for massive growth in uptake of the site. But looking at real numbers, Brazilian's seem to be migrating in significant numbers from Orkut to Facebook, a previous favourite with Brazilians. I wonder how facebook may influence these African countries in the coming years. So far, it has certainly aided in the awaking and demands on reforms in many parts of the middle east. Let's see how long it takes for facebook to be given credit for change on the continent.
