safe SEX ad tops complaints in Australia for 2011

Rip-and-roll-ad

By far the most formal complaints made to The Advertising Standards Bureau for advertising, was an ad ran in Queensland (surprise surprise) promoting safe sex for gays.  Despite the huge amounts of complaints, the advertising watchdog rejected calls for it to be banned, saying it communicated an important public safety message.

Are Queenslanders angry that gays are in their state?  That people have sex? Or that gays shouldn't be having sex, let alone safe sex?

The second most complained ad, for Energy Watch, shows an Indian man door knocking houses and offering cheap energy deals.  These complaints were upheld as it was seen to vilify people from India as being dishonest.
